Watch Nigeria Elections: 2,284 Polling Units, One State, Zero Gaps — The Ekiti Deployment Story

The number is 2,284.

That is how many registered polling units exist across all 16 Local Government Areas of Ekiti State. And on June 20, 2026, Watch Nigeria Elections had a verified, GPS-checked agent at every single one of them.

This has never been done before. Not by any civic organisation. Not at this scale. Not with this level of verification.

How We Got Here

The deployment required six months of preparation. Here is what that looked like:

Agent recruitment: 2,284 agents were recruited from within Ekiti State itself — local residents who know their polling units, their neighbours, and the political terrain. Priority was given to agents who had completed at least two training modules and passed the deployment eligibility quiz.

Training: All deployed agents completed a structured training programme covering election observation protocols, INEC result sheet verification, evidence capture procedures, and safety guidelines for high-tension environments. Agents who scored below 70% on the training quiz were not deployed to field positions.

GPS verification: Every agent was required to check in via the Watch Nigeria Elections platform before the start of accreditation. Check-in required GPS coordinates matching within 300 metres of the registered polling unit location. Agents outside the geofence were flagged and required to physically relocate before their check-in was confirmed.

Communication infrastructure: Recognizing Nigeria's network challenges, all agents were equipped with offline-capable platform access — allowing them to capture results, record SOS alerts, and photograph result sheets without live connectivity, with automatic sync when signal was available.

The Numbers

By the close of polls at 3:15 PM: - 2,041 polling units had submitted at least one result photograph (89.3% coverage) - 1,847 polling units had submitted complete result data including all party tallies - 47 SOS alerts had been logged and triaged - 243 hours of total watch time had been streamed live from field agents

What This Means for 2027

If Watch Nigeria Elections can achieve 100% polling unit coverage in Ekiti with 2,284 polling units, the same model — scaled to Nigeria's 176,846 national polling units — becomes the ambition for 2027.

The technology works. The training model works. The agent network model works. 2027 is next.
