Saturday, August 16, 2026 will go down as a defining day for democracy in Osun State. From the busy streets of Osogbo to the rural wards of Ifedayo and Ola Oluwa, citizens braved the rain and the sun to make their voices heard. Our trained Watch Nigeria Elections field agents were deployed across the state — observing accreditation, monitoring conduct, and reporting everything they saw in real time.
Now that voting has ended, the real work begins: counting the votes, verifying the figures, and flagging any irregularities before a winner is declared. We are pulling together reports from our own field agents and cross-referencing them with coverage from major Nigerian newsrooms — so you get a fuller picture of what is happening in Osun.

Voting closed across polling units in Osun State on Saturday evening with large voter turnout reported in Osogbo, Ilesa, Ile-Ife and Ede. INEC officials confirmed accreditation via BVAS ran smoothly in most units, with collation set to begin at the ward level shortly.
Channels TV correspondents reported widespread satisfaction with the BVAS accreditation process across Ife Central, Iwo and Olorunda. A few units in Atakumosa West experienced brief delays due to late arrival of materials, but voting was extended to compensate.
Dataphyte's live coverage estimates voter turnout may surpass the 2022 Osun governorship election, citing strong early-morning queues in urban LGAs and steady participation in rural wards across Oriade, Obokun and Ifedayo.
The Nigeria Police Force, NSCDC and other security agencies maintained heavy presence across all 30 LGAs. No major violent incident was reported as of press time, though isolated cases of vote-buying allegations were flagged in Irewole and Isokan.
INEC National Commissioner in charge of Osun confirmed that election materials reached all 3,763 polling units across the 30 LGAs. The commission commended field officers and ad-hoc staff for timely deployment despite early morning rainfall in some areas.
Independent citizen observers on the Civic Hive platform reported largely peaceful conduct across Osun. A handful of irregularities — including alleged intimidation in a unit in Ede North and a delayed opening in Ila — were logged and escalated to INEC.
Don't wait for the evening news. Follow the results, incidents and verified agent reports as they happen — all in one place.
