Security Update: Military Offensives in the North-East Show Results
The Nigerian military has reported significant gains in its ongoing counter-terrorism operations in the Lake Chad Basin, with major operations neutralizing key Boko Haram and ISWAP commanders in Borno and Yobe states. The Defence Headquarters confirmed the operations during a press briefing in Abuja, highlighting the role of air support and ground troops in clearing insurgent camps.
According to military spokesperson Major General Edward Buba, dozens of terrorists were neutralized in coordinated strikes, while several civilians were rescued from captivity. The operations also led to the recovery of large caches of arms and ammunition.
However, humanitarian organizations working in the region caution that the security gains must be matched with rapid delivery of aid to displaced persons. Over 2 million people remain internally displaced in the North-East, and food insecurity levels are alarming.
