Jonathan remains the ADC's most coveted potential candidate. His name recognition, South-South base, and international credibility would instantly transform the ADC's presidential prospects.

The hold-up: Jonathan's team is negotiating guarantees about the party's organizational commitment, financial support, and post-election arrangements. These are not unreasonable asks. They are also not yet agreed.

Kingsley Moghalu: The Technocrat Option

Former CBN Deputy Governor Moghalu has maintained his political relevance through his Institute for Governance and Economic Transformation (IGET). His pitch: he is the most credibly technocratic potential candidate in Nigeria's 2027 field. His weakness: converting policy credibility into electoral mobilization has proven difficult in Nigerian political conditions.

Oby Ezekwesili: The Civil Society Option

Former World Bank VP and Minister of Education Ezekwesili has the moral authority, international profile, and governance credibility that reformist voters are seeking. Her challenge: her 2019 candidacy withdrawal demonstrated the difficulty of converting moral authority into votes.

The November Deadline

Whatever decision the ADC makes, it must be made before INEC's candidate submission window opens. November 2026 is not an academic timeline — it is a hard deadline. The party's November primary will determine whether the ADC is a genuine 2027 presidential contender or an interesting experiment that ran out of time.
